CUYAHOGA FALLS - Mary Ellen Powell, 90, passed away peacefully, August 18, 2014, surrounded by family and the best caregivers on earth.
Mary Ellen was born October 23, 1923 to Arthur and Grace Planson and resided in Stryker, Ohio for 21 years. Mary Ellen and "Doc" moved to Akron in 1944. They built their home in Cuyahoga Falls in November, 1950 where they raised their sons, Dean (Tris) of Scottsdale, AZ and Dennis (Kathleen) of Cuyahoga Falls.
Mary Ellen worked as a receptionist for Dr. Burkhart. She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ and was active in programs at the church. She was a member of the Cuyahoga Falls Women's Club where she attended all the events. She will be remembered for her love of traveling, cooking, playing bridge,golf, fishing, hiking, caring for her flower garden and gathering with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.N." Doc" Powell, parents and siblings Chuck and Jeannie of Stryker and Darlene of Dayton. She was loved and will be missed by her children and many nieces, nephews and friends, especially Karen Skinner and the Tom Decker Families
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20 at Bethany United Church of Christ, 1235 Broad Blvd, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223. The Family will greet friends at the Church one hour prior to the Memorial Service. In lieu of other remembrances the family asks that donation be made to the Church or to your favorite charity. Her children would like to thank everyone for the kind and gentle care during the past three years. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 330-928-2147.
