Mary Scharnott

Mary Loraine Scharnott passed away on February 13, 2015 in Naples, Florida. Mary was born in Duluth, Minn. on August 2, 1927 to Joseph Secard and Martha Rapp Secard. After graduating from Duluth Central High School, she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob), on April 23, 1949.

They began their family In Duluth with children Greg, Janet, and Lynda and after moving to Hibbing, Minn. added Scott to the family. Moving to Ohio brought them to Cuyahoga Falls and later to Streetsboro where they lived for a combined 34 years. While in Ohio, Mary went back to school and became an LPN in 1975. After obtaining her degree she worked at St Thomas Hospital in Akron, Ohio until she retired.

In retirement, Mary and Bob traveled extensively to 48 states in their motor home along with their beloved 18-pound black cat, Mac. A cruise to Alaska and a trip to Hawaii completed their tour of all 50 states. After being "Arizona snow birds" for 10 years they relocated fulltime to Sun City, Arizona, making their final move in 2012 to Naples, Florida to be near their son Scott.

Mary was very creative, sewing most of her girls' clothes and ballet costumes, and special dolls for the children as well as the dolls' clothes. She excelled in ceramics and painted in oil and watercolors. Mary also enjoyed writing poetry.

She is survived by her husband, Bob of 65 years; children, Greg (Janis), Janet Hart, Lynda Blanchard (Tony), and Scott (Helen); eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Avenue, Akron, OH, followed by interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, Peninsula, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations will be welcomed at the National Wildlife Federation online at www.nwf.org or at P.O. Box 1583, Merrifield, VA 22116-1583. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
