CUYAHOGA FALLS - Mary Ann Thomas, 80, made her journey to the Kingdom on Thursday, August 9, 2012. Born in Tallmadge, she had lived most of her life in Cuyahoga Falls. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Eugene's Catholic Church where she loved to change the missalettes with her family. She attended George Barber Grade School and graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in January 1950. Her first place of employment was Lawson MilkCompany. She worked at the Pentagon for the Department of Defense in 1951 followed by working for O'Neil's on Front Street for a number of years. She worked as a secretary for Costigan Precast in the Falls then worked 17 A½ years at Goodyear Tire in the Billing and Credit Department before retiring in1993. Mary Ann loved life, her family and was always strong in her faith. She especially loved her daughters, being Nana to her grandson and spending every minute of the past 28 years with her soul mate Hank Dement. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and taking pictures of all. She loved playing cards with her sisters and passing of the crown to the victor. She spent many hours with her embroidery and hooking rugs for framing. She won many ribbons for her works of art but more importantly she gave those works of art to family and friends as gifts from her heart.
Preceded in death by her parents Catherine (Young) Foster in 1979, Ray Foster in 1989, her husband, Frank Thomas in 1975 and her beloved friend of 66 years, Barbara Davidson. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Weisenmiller (Tim Hanna), Cathleen Giannini (Michael), beloved grandson Brett Weisenmiller andher soul mate Hank all of Cuyahoga Falls; sisters Joanne (Joseph) Musteric, Cumberland, MD, Jacqueline (Donald) Patris, Cuyahoga Falls, Judi List, Boardman, OH. She also leaves behind her extended family, Lynn Alberts (Scott), Wisconsin, Jim Dement, Massillon, ChrisDement, Ellet, David Dement (Jessica), Hudson, Jeanine Hill (Scott), Massillon. She was also Grandma or "Auntie Em" to Jeff,Eric, Brad, Kara, Jason, Madison, Austin, Hannah, Jessica and Hunter. Mary Ann had many special memories with her neighborand life-long friend Nodra Heisser. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, but especially by Anna Fenno, her "Annie-kins" from Charlotte, NC. The list goes on of the people who loved Mary Ann and extended a helping hand through the years. Her adopted family, Kimberly Shontz & her honorary granddaughter, Shannon Shontz-Phillips, Sheryl Dement, Dona Ricker, Marlene & Bill McFadden and Peggy Menke. Special thanks go to Fr. Crosby, Pastor of St. Eugene's and Gayle who came to pray and gave Mary Ann the opportunity to continue to receive Jesus. Special thanks to each and every person from Hospice of Summa who helped care for our Mother the last 5 weeks of her life. You are truly just a phone call away. We also want to thank the "Angels of Mercy" from Haven Home Health Care that became a part of our family and gave loving care each and every day, Gina, Hershey, Jackie and Dee. Brenda, thank you for the time you spent helping and loving Mom. Thank you Kristen for making a special trip to meet our Mother. What a special gift you gave us. Mom will also be missed by her loving puppy, Savannah, who never left her side.
Calling hours will be held at Clifford-Shoemaker FuneralHome, 1930 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls on Wednesday, August 15 from 5:00 - 8:00pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Eugene Catholic Parish 1821 Munroe Falls Ave, Cuyahoga Falls on Thursday,August 16 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon immediately following at the church. Mary Ann always loved the color purple so if you are so inclined, please feel free to wear a touch of purple as we celebrate Mary Ann's life.
