CUYAHOGA FALLS - Matthew B. Poelking, 85, died at his residence January 10, 2010. Mr. Poelking was born in Lakewood, had resided in Cuyahoga Falls since October 1st and previously in California for 25 years and Ohio prior to that. He had worked in residential construction as a carpenter, built his own home in N. Royalton and loved flying as an aerobatic and crop duster. He was a Veteran of WWII having served with the U. S. Navy, and enjoyed wind-surfing, sailing, model airplane flying, antique car restoration and motorcycles, his Harley in particular.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Lee; daughters, Mary Y. Gutin and Connie Marie Brakeman (Dan); sons, Thomas M. (Tammy), John, Don J. (Kim) and David Lee Poelking; grandchildren, Joe and James Gutin, Karen (Dan) Watson, Rachael (Dan), Chelsea and Tyler Poelking, Nicholas (Adriane) Poelking, Jason and Travis Poelking and David and Christina Poelking; great-granddaughters, Sarah and Eden; great-grandsons, Luke and Benjamin; sister, Mary Ann Ellis.
There will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls. Chaplain Rob Grow officiating. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to Harbor Light Hospice 25 S. Main St. Suite 7 Munroe Falls, OH 44262 .
