CUYAHOGA FALLS - Melba (Kennedy) Ferrall, 81, of Cuyahoga Falls , passed away November 21, 2008.
She was preceded in death by husband William, daughter Kimberly Sue, her mother and father Ray and Helen Kennedy, brothers Ray and Jack, Aunts Wilma, Sara and Louise, sister-in-law Martha and niece Karen. She is survived by her brother Richard (wife Frieda), sons Jeff, Drew (wife Karen), Douglas (wife Beth), David (wife Tracey) Scott and daughter Beth (husband Tom Waldren). She is also survived by grandchildren William, Sarah, Katie, Conor, Kasey, Joel, Grace, Patrick and Abigail. A host of nieces and nephews will also miss her.
Born July 24, 1927 in Cambridge, OH she graduated from Cambridge High School in 1945 and moved to Washington , D.C. to work as a file clerk for the F.B.I. Her long marriage to husband Bill lasted until his death in 1997.
Melba "Toast" was an active and social woman, a tireless volunteer when her children were growing up. The P.T.A. and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary filled her time in between loads of laundry and meals for eight. As her children grew older, she loved to travel-to New York City with her youngest son and the "battlegrounds and ball fields" tours with her oldest son. Still later in life, her zeal for shopping-she was always a bit of a clotheshorse-translated to legendary shopping trips for her beloved grandchildren.
She will be missed.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday November 25 from 4-8 p.m., and funeral service on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, with a reception to follow at the American Legion Charles Faust Post 281. A short service will be held prior to interment at the Firestone Cemetery Chapel, Columbiana, Ohio
