Michael Jeffrey Fletcher Sr., known to many as "Fletch," passed away on Monday, April 15th, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, storytelling, and genuine spirit. His last breath came how he had wished, in his own bed with the love of his life by his side.
Born on November 14, 1954, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Fletch was the life of the party, a music lover, a master angler, and a lover of all things Amish. He brought joy to those around him with his infectious spirit and unwavering authenticity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Joan (pronounced like Joanne), his youngest brother Marc, and his only sister Debra. His mother passed away just three months ago, at the age of 90. They spoke to each other every day, and now, she is surely welcoming him to the next leg of his journey.
Fletch will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Kay, his son Michael Jr., his grandchildren Michael S. and Logan, his brother Donald (Mary), and his nephew Joshua. As well as his favorite dog, Charlie, who he called "Pootsie”.
A proud graduate of Copley High School in 1973, Fletch carried on lifelong friendships with his closest buddies, Jaime, Duncan, Cheryl, Mitch, and many others. His ability to keep in touch and foster connections spoke volumes about his caring nature.
A dedicated and hardworking man, he spent 42 years at AA Blueprint Company, He was always the first one to clock in and only missed a handful of days in his time there. Daisy and his work family will surely miss his somewhat abrasive yet comical and fiery personality, which brought much laughter to the shop.
Outside of work, Fletch was a skilled fisherman even when he wasn't trying to be. Once, while giving a lesson to a first-time fisher, he hauled in a trophy largemouth, tipping the scales at just over 10 1/2 lbs. And, while fishing the Lake Erie shallows close to shore, he miraculously hooked onto a walleye, just 3/4" shorter than the length of the state record. His favorite places to fish though, were the cool, crystal-clear waters found on the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada. The legendary stories and shenanigans that took place there could fill a book. Indeed, he will once again get to share a boat with Uncle Lee & Doc.
He was a passionate supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, standing by his teams through thick and thin, never missing a game. He also never missed the chance to turn any weather event into a dangerous, life or death situation, making every storm feel like Katrina and every snowfall like the Blizzard of '78.
In honoring Fletch's wishes, no formal service will be held, and cremation will take place. Those who wish to pay tribute to his memory are encouraged to make a donation to a local pet adoption agency, reflecting his love of animals. The family would also like to thank Western Reserve Hospice for all provided in the final days,
While honoring his memory, let's recall his unwavering dependability, his love for his family, and his knack for finding humor in everyday moments. May his laughter, strong work ethic, and genuine nature continue to inspire those who knew him, keeping his memory alive through the tales and music he shared.
Rest in peace, Fletch, may your spirit continue to shine bright in the hearts of those who loved you. May the waters be calm, and the fish always biting.
