CUYAHOGA FALLS - Nellie Mae Mengel, 85, went home to be with the Lord June 30th, 2006. Mrs. Mengel was born in Akron to John and Mariah (nee Flickinger) Nalle and resided in Cuyahoga Falls and Kent most of her life. She was a 1939 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, received her BA and MA in Education from Kent State and did graduate work at Western Reserve University and Ohio State University. She had taught at Kent State University and Arizona State, had been a teacher and Jr. High Principal at Big Thompson School in Loveland, CO, taught at Windham and Stow High Schools, and retired as a Guidance Counselor at Twinsburg High School. She belonged to the Twinsburg Historical Society, was past president of the Portage Co. Historical Society, and was well known for her Straw-hat Tag Sales.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lloyd and sons, Justin and Jan, and is survived by dear friends, Amanda Robinson, Phyllis Wann, Amy Stahl, Joe Nichols, and many others who loved her dearly.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be conducted at The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, on Saturday, July 8, at 1:00 pm. Final resting place will be in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to Hospice of Summa.
