Norma A. Bichum, 79, died suddenly and peacefully with her family by her side on October 28, 2014.
She was born to Mardeca and Beulah (Finley) Johnson on December 18, 1934 in Barboursville, WV. Growing up in Akron in the "Projects" during the depression, Norma learned to appreciate all that she had. She was caring, giving and very generous. She attended Zion Lutheran School and graduated from West High School in Akron.
As a young girl, Norma met her future husband, Dave Bichum. They married when she was 19, moved to Cuyahoga Falls and raised three daughters. At a time when women were just entering the workforce, Norma began her career in purchasing management and studied at The University of Akron. She was proud of her accomplishments at Goodyear Aerospace and Lockheed Martin and especially loved the work she did on the Blimp program.
After her retirement, Norma moved to Youngstown where she spent many happy years with her long-time companion, Charles Galazia. They danced, had coffee with friends every day and went out for spaghetti often. Norma learned to quilt and demonstrated an amazing talent for color and design. She took great pride in her immaculate home and her beautiful yard. But most of all throughout her life her three daughters were her pride and joy.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband David L. Bichum, daughter Pam Bichum Jennings and companion Charles Galazia, Norma is survived by her daughters Lee (Jim) Hamill and Linda (Mike) Miller, almost (and favorite) "daughter" Christy Hamill (Bob Cady) and dearest friends Pat Bartley, Harold Heinz and Jack Malloy. The family also wishes to thank the staff at The Gardens of Western Reserve for taking such good care of Norma for the past few months.
