Pauline Rutledge

CUYAHOGA FALLS -Pauline Hine Rutledge, 95, passed away on October 1, 2016. She was born in Akron, Ohio on September 8, 1921. After graduating from South High School, she attended Akron City Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1943. While serving as a nurse in the Army Nurse Corps during WWII she met her future husband, Bob, an Air Force pilot. Her husband was later killed in active duty in 1954. As a young widow, she continued her career in nursing and raised her sons on her own. She settled in Cuyahoga Falls and was a nurse at Akron City Hospital and Brecksville VA Hospital before retiring after 20 years with Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital. Teaching DCT high school students interested in the health care field was a joy for her. She felt her nursing career was her salvation and she was grateful to those who provided the training that enabled her family to survive. She was a life member of Bethany United Church of Christ.

Pauline is survived by her sons: Robert (Shirley) Rutledge, LtCol USMC (ret) of Yuma, AZ and Wes (Ann) Rutledge of Kent; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Shirley Cleary of Canal Fulton and Bonnie Brunner of Merritt Island, FL; nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the caring staff of The Gables of KentRidge where she resided for the past 1A½ years.
