SILVER LAKE -Philip M. Hamilton, 74, passed away September 22, 2007. Mr. Hamilton was born in Akron and had resided in Silver Lake the past 36 years, moving there from Cuyahoga Falls. He retired in 1995 from Evans Savings Bank (now Key Bank) with 35 years service and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls. Philip attended high school in Toronto, Canada where he was all city running back. After graduation, he was invited to attend the training camp of the Philadelphia Phillies. He returned to the area to enter the University of Akron in 1953. He was elected president of Theta Chi Fraternity the same year Joyce Tate became "the sweetheart of Theta Chi". An estimated 6 million attended the wedding of Philip and Joyce. They were married Nov. 14, 1957 on an NBC-TV program called "Bride and Groom. Bandleader Sammy Kaye was a guest at their wedding. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Cuyahoga Falls and had served on the Board of Directors for Taylor Memorial Library. He was instrumental in organizing the Ronald McDonald Golf Classic, loved to fish at his cottage on Tappan Lake, enjoyed vacations with his family at the ocean and loved watching his grandchildren in all their sporting events.
Preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Edna; brother-in-law, Art Rainey and nephew, Matthew Lee he is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Joyce; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Judy of Silver Lake; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Dante Sabatucci of Stow and Dawn and Matt Ward of Washington Court House; grandchildren, Alex and Elise Hamilton, Dante Jr, Marissa, Isabella and Ava Sabatucci and Katherine and Madeline Ward; sisters and brother, Nancy Rainey, Chuck (Lucy) Hamilton and Colleen (Bill) Lee and many nieces and nephews.
The Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday in the First United Methodist Church 245 Portage Trail Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, Rev. Marvin Brown officiating. Interment Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
