CUYAHOGA FALLS - Raymond R. Burwell, 86 years, of Cuyahoga Falls, died peacefully August 17, 2014 surrounded by love and family. Raymond was born November 18, 1928 to Burl H. and Dollie Mae Burwell. He served his country in World War II in the US Navy. After his honorable discharge he attended the Great Lakes Machinist Institute in Chicago, Illinois and was employed as a machinist. Goodyear Aerospace brought him to the Akron area in the early 1950's and he retired from Terex Division of General Motors and IBH as a production foreman.
Raymond was a kind gentle man known for always offering a helping hand. His neighbors knew they could count on him for house repairs, garden vegetables and keeping their driveways clear of snow. He was happiest when working in his garden and travelling the US in his motorhome. He was a loving husband, proud father and doting grandfather.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Ann (Wass); his children: Stephen (Sharon), Brian (Karen) and Jill (Robert); grandchildren: Michael (Megan), Matthew, Bethany, Paul (Kassandra) and Lydia (Jeremiah); and his greatest joy, great-granddaughters Makenna, Elliana and Sarah.
He is also survived by his brothers: Leon (Barbara) and Robert (Lorna) and sisters Violet McCormick and Virginia (Steven) Warlick; brothers-in-law Ralph (Stella) Wass, Jennings Franklin Wass, Elwin (Barbara) Wass, and sister-in-law Margaret (Ronald) Hatfield, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Dollie Burwell, in-laws Ralph and Lenna Wass, brothers Burl Jr. (Joanne), Judson and John (Diane).
The family wishes to gratefully thank the staff of the Gardens of Western Reserve and Vitas Hospice Care for their loving support and care of Raymond and the family. A memorial service will be held at the Tallmadge United Methodist Church, 207 N. Munroe Rd., Tallmadge, Ohio with Pastors Marvin Brown and Bill Liming officiating on Thursday,
