Ray, also known as Wooley, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 8, 1948, and lived in the Stow area as an adult.
During his life Ray had many evolving interests, which ranged from pitching baseball to racing homing pigeons. He was also an avid reader and music enthusiast, attending the Woodstock Music Festival in 1969. Ray enjoyed playing cards, fishing, vacationing at Pow-Wow Point Lodge in Canada, and bowling at North Lanes.
He retired from Firestone as an advertising coordinator shortly before the company relocated to Nashville. Ray then continued his advertising career with Lucarelli Designs and Displays in Brunswick, Ohio for ten years. Finally, he turned his love of music into a successful on-line record company, selling his curated inventory of hundreds of thousands of 45s until his retirement in 2019.
Recently, Ray acknowledged with gratitude how fortunate he was to have been raised in a loving family. He and his former wife, Carol Long of Nashville, remained close friends and loving parents to their wonderful daughter, Robyn Evans of Cuyahoga Falls. In turn, Robyn and her husband, Dan, and their children, Emily and Lucas, provided daily comfort and care to Ray during his nine month illness.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rita Peters (Petrykowski). He is survived by his sister, Sandra Rich of Fort Myers, Florida; his brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Dianne Peters, of Twin Lakes, Ohio; nephew, Michael Rich; nieces, Carolyn Peters and Cara Rich; and grandchildren Emily and Lucas Evans.
Ray’s wishes were to forego calling hours and a funeral. A private family luncheon celebrating his life will be held in the future.
