R.C. Griggs

CUYAHOGA FALLS - R.C. Griggs, 89, passed away Nov. 16, 2008, at home with his family. Born March 27, 1919 in Princeton, KY to Ceburn and Quincy (nee Gray) Griggs. Preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings, he is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Maurine (nee Lovette) Griggs; 2 children, Vickie (Charlie) Rice of Lexington, KY and Rick (Pasqualina) Griggs of Cuyahoga Falls; 5 grandchildren; 3 grandsons-in-law; 2 great-grandchildren and many caring relatives and friends.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and a 32nd degree Mason since 1953. He and Maurine came to Akron in 1944 and settled in Cuyahoga Falls to raise their children. He retired from BF Goodrich in 1981 with 37 years service. Following his retirement, he was a highly respected craftsman who shared his knowledge of remodeling, repair and general contracting with everyone. He focused on helping others and always made it his priority to earn an honest dollar. He was also an accomplished woodworker and built many things for friends and family. A large part of his legacy was the pride he took in his work and how he cared for his family. He made sure everyone's needs were met; no work left undone, no words left unspoken.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Wednesday in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, where a Funeral Service will be conducted Thursday at 11 am, Rev. Chris McCombs officiating. Final resting place Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the R.C. Griggs Memorial Fund at Broadman Baptist Church, 350 East Bath Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223 or to Hospice of VNS, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333 in memory of R.C. Griggs.
