Richard Riley

CUYAHOGA FALLS- Richard "Dick" Vernell Riley, 73, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, passed away surrounded by friends and family on August 30, 2017.

Born September 26, 1943 in Akron, Ohio. He was the son of the late Kenneth Richard and Joan Luella (Marlett) Riley. He attended St. Vincent St. Mary High School and then proudly served in the Air Force. Of his time in the Air Force, Dick would fondly joke, "I joined the Air Force and got to fly a typewriter." Dick worked for Summit County Probation Department, taking early retirement in 1992.

Dick loved a good joke and was always quick with a pun. He had a passion for fishing, cards, and genealogy. His love of fishing found him spending most of his free time at Lake Erie feeding the perch-occasionally catching a few-and fixing his boat; and when the fishing weather was rough, playing cards. His joy of genealogy introduced the family to numerous cousins, uncles, nieces, nephews that we never knew existed.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret "Peggy" (Glutting) Riley; two sons, Timothy (Kristina) of Fishers, Indiana, and Patrick (Angel Carlile) of Alliance, Ohio; three grandsons: Cullen, Ronan, and Donovan, and one granddaughter: Maeve, all of Fishers, Indiana. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra (Jim) Linn, brothers, Dennis (Paula) Riley, and Michael (Toni) Riley; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Riley.

Visitation will be held at Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home on Sunday, September 3, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Dick's final resting place will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, interment to be held in a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to IBH Addiction Recovery Center at www.ibh.org . Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
