Mr. Richard Glenn Thursby, 73, of Vero Beach, FL and Marblehead, OH,
Died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach,
FL after a brief illness.
He was born November 6, 1933 in Akron, OH. Mr. Thursby was a 1951 graduate of Stow Ohio High School and attended The University of Akron, Akron, OH. He was a deputy for the Summit County Sheriff's Office and also worked for many local businesses providing private security. Mr. Thursby then joined the the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department, retiring after 29 years of service with the department as Police Captain. While in Vero Beach, FL, Mr. Thursby worked security with his wife Pat for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church Cuyahoga Falls, OH, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #49, the Port Clinton Moose Lodge 1610, Port Clinton, OH, a member of the Masonic Temple and Past member of the Blue Coats of Akron, OH. Mr. Thursby was a member of the Democratic Club of Ottawa County, Board Of Zoning Appeals, Danbury Township 1994 - 1996 and a member of the Akron Police and Firefighters Association.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Patricia A. Thursby of Vero Beach, FL and Marblehead, OH; children, Susan A. Moran of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Jeffrey A. (Hope) Thursby of Munroe Falls, OH, Michael J. (Cynthia) Thursby of Akron, OH, Frederick L. Knight of Tallmadge, OH, Christina M. Miner (Jeffry) of Munroe Falls, OH and Angela J. (Chuck) Tuerck of Morrow, OH; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; many wonderful family members and friends and his
best friend, golden retriever, Sammy. Mr. Thursby was preceded in death by his son, Stephen R. Thursby.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Burial Park, Twinsburg, OH. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
God saw that Richard was weary,
He done what he thought best.
He opened up His arms to him,
And whispered, " Come and rest."
