"Together Again"
CUYAHOGA FALLS - Robert E. Bennington, Sr., affectionately known as Bob, was born to Francis and Charlie Bennington on Feb. 8, 1922 as a joyful 9 ? lb baby. He lived a majority of his life in Akron and was returned to our Lord, February 2, 2009.
A graduate of Central High School, he married Doris (Swanson) on November 19, 1941 and shortly thereafter left for the war. A WWII Veteran, honorably discharged as a commissioned officer in 1946, he returned from the war to Akron to start his career at Goodyear. He was proudly a member of the Goodyear (Production) Squadron, with a 4 year certificate in Business Management from Goodyear Industrial University . Later in life he found his way to building and real estate, and retired in 1999. He and Doris had five children and 57 wonderful years before her passing. He was an avid fisherman, and a lover of sports - specifically known to be vocal at any grandchild's sporting event, often offering umpires and referees use of his glasses.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty, infant son Bennington, and his wife Doris. His legacy lives on in children Robert II and Tammy, Marsha and Zack Mansdorf, Karen and Carl Myers, and Diane and Jim Smith. Grandchildren; Robert III, Kevin and Scott Bennington, Brett and Bart Mansdorf, Carl, Lisa (Morgan), and Curt Myers, and Shannon Smith. He was further blessed with nine Great-Grandchildren. He had seen four generations of Bennington decedents baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church, where he was a lifetime member.
With a style of his own from older times, and a demeanor of kindness - he was a blessing to have known. A model Grandparent, and a pillar of the community, he was often found as the focal point of any conversation with his stories and jokes.
