MCALLEN - Robert "Bob" Hinkel, 88, of Mission, Texas, passed away at the Comfort House on April 10, 2016. He was born to Aloysius and Dorothy Hinkel on April 5, 1928 in Medina, Ohio.
Shortly after his marriage to Ruth Hinkel, whom preceded him in death in 2010, he would go on to serve for the United States Army for two years (1951-1953). As a loving father and husband, he continued to support his family through the means of various jobs, but bravely worked as a fireman in Cuyahoga Falls for over 21 years. After retirement in 1981, he became a winter Texan and later made Mission, Texas his permanent home.
In 2011, he married Rosemary Wolf and they celebrated their 5th wedding Anniversary on February 12. Bob was an active member of the community and spent much of his time and energy while living in Mission, Texas, as a volunteer for the South Texas Food Shelf handing out food at the United Methodist Church in Mission. Of his many cherished qualities, Bob's ability to make a person smile and laugh will be missed by many. And those that knew him, will treasure those memories of hearing Bob's heartfelt laugh and seeing his genuine smile for he was loved by all.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; one sister, Eleanor Nandrasy, Ohio; his children, Tom (Eileen) Hinkel, Pennsylvania, Marcia Cramer, Alaska, Tim (Liz) Hinkel, Ohio, Roberta (Stephen) Hinkel-Belair, Connecticut and Barbara (Bruce) Heath, Ohio; 10 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren and many other relatives that will all miss him very much.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Comfort House, located at 617 Dallas Avenue McAllen, Texas 78501, Catholic Charities U.S.A. P.O. Box 17066 Baltimore, MD, 21297 or a charity of your choice in honor of Bob's love for giving back to the community.
Friends may call from 2-6 PM on Sunday April 17, 2016 in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH, 44221. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday April 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1761 2nd St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH, 44221.
