CUYAHOGA FALLS - Robert E. Porter, 88, passed away August 8, 2010.

Mr. Porter was born in Wooster, and graduated from East High School in Akron in 1939and has resided in Cuyahoga Falls since 1953. He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He began working for Goodyear in 1945 and was a loyal employee for 40 years, graduating from the Apprentice School where he earned the P. W. Litchfield Award as the outstanding apprentice of his class. He then completed his training in the Goodyear Squadron School. He was an active member of the East Market Christian Church where he served two terms as Chairman of the Official Board, served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Board of Elders and the Board of Trustees and as a faithful member of the Choir for many years. Following the merger he remained a member of the New Horizons Christian Church. Robert loved sports, playing in his younger years baseball and basketball and in his later years bowling. He was a strong fan of the OSU football team and also for the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers. Above all Mr. Porter was devoted to his family.

Preceded in death by his first wife Adelaide, brothers Richard E and Ray E, he will be greatly missed by his wife of 17 years Kathryn Faye, and his daughters Kathleen (Paul) Thaxton of Green, Karen (Dave) Shearer of Columbus; son Dr. Robert E (Patricia) Porter, Jr. of Minneapolis, and was adored by his grandchildren, Meridith Persuad, Kristin Austin, Shannon Shearer and David Shearer; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Brandon, Maya and Landon; brothers Ronald E. (Emma) and Roy E (Jo Ann); sisters, Kathryn Shmitz, Marilyn (Gene) Everhart and Roslyn Bader and many nieces nephews and friends.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday August 12, in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls where a Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 p.m. Thursday Revs. Clifton Garris and Jim Bane officiating. Interment in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Greater Akron Humane Society, 7996 Darrow Road, Twinsburg, OH 44087 or Maranatha Bible Church Building Fund, 2410 Massillon Rd., Akron, OH 44312.
