MUNROE FALLS-Robert A. White, 93, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2015. He was born on May 20, 1921 in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania where he graduated from Elizabeth High School, where he excelled in both basketball and baseball. He later played on numerous semi-professional teams, including the Pittsburgh Shamrocks.
He proudly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army 207 Combat Engineers Battalion Company A, during World War II. Robert retired from the Chrysler Corporation in 1979, as the Welder Repair Superintendent.
He spent the majority of his life living in the Stow and Munroe Falls communities, where he met daily with his "coffee buddies" at the Arby's in Cuyahoga Falls. He served on the Stow Booster Club as a Board Member from 1969-72 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Robert was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan who looked forward to watching the games each week. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and took pride in watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Irene White; his sisters, Harriet Krimm, Francis Ryan, Rita Kerechman, and Patty Popp. He will be missed by his loving wife of 74 years, Emma; his daughter, Barbara (Dave) Cvengros; son, Rick (Leslie) White; grandchildren, Jeff (Jenny) Cvengros, Donna (Jeff) Brink, Alexandra, Meredith and Steven White; great-grandchildren, Noah and Rebecca Cvengros, Zachary, Abigail and Joshua Brink. He also leaves behind sister, Theresa Dobrick and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Friends may call from 3-6 pm on Friday February 27 in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH, 44221. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Saturday February 28, 2015 at 11:00 am. Private interment will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Holy Family Catholic Church, 3179 Kent Rd., Stow, OH 44224. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
