Ronald D. Zimmerman, 77, crossed into heaven on April 15, 2018 after a brief illness.
Born in Akron on October 31, 1940, to David and Dorothy Zimmerman (Wadlington), Ron spent the majority of his life in Northampton Twp and Cuyahoga Falls. He graduated from South High School where he was named All-City in basketball. Later in life, this skill helped him prevail in more than an occasional game of HORSE while playing with his sons. After attending classes at Kent State, Ron spent 39 years as a health inspector for the City of Akron. A life-long car enthusiast, he successfully raced Open Stock division at Barberton Speedway in his youth and spent many years restoring classic and sometimes not-so-classic cars. He recently remarked that it was impossible for him to pass a "For Sale" sign. All who knew him will miss his loving, generous nature and witty sense of humor.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ron is survived and deeply missed by his children David (Jennifer), Brian (Morgen), his grandchildren, Jacob, Tyler, Sebastian Graham, soon to be born Isaac, and ex-wife Jeanne with whom he reunited and spent the last years of his life. Also surviving are brothers, Jerry and John (Janice) Zimmerman and numerous nieces and nephews. Lastly, he will be missed by his favorite dog, Dolly, who was the beneficiary of many tummy rubs in Dad's chair.
A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, April 21st at Hope Community Church 3033 Middleton Rd, Hudson, OH 44236 with visitation beginning at 10:00am followed by a service at 11:00am. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
