Ron Houser, formerly of Hudson, Ohio passed away May 21, 2024 from his battle with cancer. He was 78 years old.
Ron was born April 25, 1946 in Akron, Ohio to parents Jack and Josephine Houser, both of whom preceded him in death.
Ron attended Stow City Schools and graduated from Stow High School in 1964. Ron was an outstanding athlete participating in basketball, baseball and golf. In an era when many underclassmen played junior varsity, Ron started every varsity basketball game from his sophomore through his senior year. He was all league twice and earned Beacon Journal All District honors his senior season.
Ron attended the College of Wooster, Baldwin Wallace College and Harvard Business School. His work career included Price Waterhouse, The Goodyear Bank, Goodyear Tire and Rubber and MTD Products. While at Goodyear Tire, Ron was part of the finance group put together by then Chairman and CEO, Robert Mercer, to help devise a plan to fend off a takeover of Goodyear by corporate raider James Goldsmith. The group’s plan worked thus, keeping Goodyear in Akron.
Ron is survived by sons Douglas (Cheryl) of Granville, Ohio, JT of Los Angeles, California; granddaughters, Natalie of the United States Navy, Katie of Madison, Wisconsin and Stephanie of Granville, Ohio; and brothers, Dr. Edward Houser of Grandy, North Carolina, and Robert (Kimberly) of Barberton, Ohio. Ron also leaves behind many cousins, former golf buddies and friends from high school.
The family would like to thank Richard and Becky Lusk for their friendship and care for Ron in his final weeks. Per Ron's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services. However, if one chooses, the next time you're enjoying one of your favorite beverages, he would appreciate a "Here's To Ya, Ron".
