CUYAHOGA FALLS -Roy E. Bendell, 85, died at his residence August 26, 2005. Mr. Bendell was born in Akron and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls most of his life. He retired from Ohio Bell in 1978 with 38 years service and had previously worked for Western Electric. He was a Veteran of WW2 having served as a staff sargeant with the Army Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific and was awarded a Bronze Star and 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was an active member of Bethany United Church of Christ where he had served as an elder and was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, American Legion Charles Faust Post 281, Brewsters' Anglers Club and the U. S. Golf Assoc. He was a former Boy Scout Leader.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva and is survived by his children, James (Cathy) Bendell of Dolton, IL, Michael Bendell of Boca Raton, FL, Carol Bendell of Copenhagen, Denmark, Dr. David (Laurie) Bendell of Orland Park, IL and Martha (Dr. Doug) Wulf of Menassas, VA; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Christa, Brooke, Todd, Paige and Nicholas and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm Monday in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 am Tuesday in Bethany United Church of Christ 1235 Broad Blvd. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223, Rev. Stephen Gehlert officiating. A Committal Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday in Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. Memorials may be made to Bethany United Church of Christ.
