CUYAHOGA FALLS- Ruth Lawrie Harris passed away Nov. 16, 2010.
Mrs. Harris was born in Norwalk, Ohio, graduated from John Hay High School Cleveland, Ohio and retired as a medical assistant for Dr. Amador Raslan Kent, Ohio.
She was a 60 year member of Olive Chapter #53 Order of Eastern Star. She received the Grand Cross of Color, Rainbow for Girls June 18, 1934. She was past president of the United Methodist Women and past district member of the United Methodist Women. A member of the Summit County Medical Assistants for 27 years, she was one of the first volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Akron, Ohio for 13 years. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church, Akron, Ohio.
She loved fishing with her husband in Canada and they were season ticket holders of the Cleveland Browns.
She is survived by her brother Dr. Jack (Irene) Lawrie of Tyrone, Pa.; daughter Nancy Hopes of Ashtabula; son Glenn (Shirley) Josett of Northfield; grandchildren Dr. Scott (Ronda) Hopes, Jeffrey Hopes, Todd Hopes, Donna Josett, Monty Josett, Tom Josett, Chris Josett, great-grandchildren, Aaron Hopes, Ariel Hopes, Christian Hopes, Kandra Josett, Aaron Josett, D'Shea St.Jacques, great-great grandchild Nadia Faticanti and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald H. Harris, parents William Glenn and Laura Belle (Hall) Lawrie, brothers, Richard, William, and Herb Lawrie.
Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service that will be conducted at 11:00a.m. Monday November 22, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church of Akron, 263 E. Mill St. Akron, Ohio 44308, Rev. Douglas Meek officiating. Interment at Riverside Cemetery in Monroeville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or the First United Methodist Women.
