Sally Jones

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Sally Oppegard Jones passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007 following a sudden illness. Born November 5, 1925 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, she grew up in Grand Forks, North Dakota and attended the University of North Dakota, where she became editor of the Dakota Student. She graduated with honors, with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. She went on to earn a Masters Degree from the Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University, at the age of 21. She was married in 1947 and after having six of her seven children, earned a second Masters Degree in Library Science from Kent State University. She spent several years working at Taylor Memorial Library (now the Cuyahoga Falls Public Library) and Stow Public Library, where she was the consummate reference Librarian. Late in her career, she taught Library Science at both Kent State and the University of Akron. Mrs. Jones was a computer enthusiast, who saw the potential for the use of computers in libraries back in the 1970's.
Sally is survived by her husband of sixty years, John Frank Jones of Cuyahoga Falls; her sisters Helen Stratte of Trinidad, California; and Betty Ridder of Rolling Hills, California; and her children, Janna Bellwin of Stamford, Connecticut, Jeramy Ridder of Eugene, Oregon, Michael Jones, Jillian Nester, and Julie Jones, all of Cuyahoga Falls, Jeffrey Jones of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and David Jones of Boston, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and friends too numerous to count.
There will be no calling hours or memorial service. Please make donations to the Peninsula Public Library, 6105 Riverview Rd., Peninsula, OH 44264 in lieu of other remembrances.
