CUYAHOGA FALLS - Samuel went home on December 4, where he was reunited with his dear wife, Mary Jane, who passed away in 2004. He was born in Maryland and grew up Wilmington, Delaware. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army and was part of the Army Air Corp where he was a B-17 pilot. In 1944 he married Mary Jane Estell and shortly after that was sent to Europe and flew 35 missions from England to Germany. He worked for Huron Milling Company and Hercules Powder Company as a senior sales representative and retired in 1982. Sam and Mary Jane lived in many places, but their last home was at The Danbury in Cuyahoga Falls where the many residents and staff became part of Sam's family.
Sam is survived by his sisters, Eloise Hearn and Josephine Riess. He is also survived by a son, Samuel E. Watkins, daughter, Sara Watkins (Richard Sonnecken), grandchildren, Sharon Mercer (Allen) and Samuel A. Mexcur (Marina De Simone). He had 5 great-Grandchildren. Sam's special friend, Eileen Mutchie, preceded him in death in 2014.
A celebration of Sam's life will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. at The Danbury of Cuyahoga Falls, 1695 Queens Gate Circle, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pioneer Missions at pioneers.org or to Worship for Shut Ins at worshipforshutins.org.
