"Sandy" Powell

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Sandra E Powell (nee Thogerson) 71 went to be with the Lord on 6-05-2016. Sandra was born in Richmond, California in 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents Nels and Lydia Thogerson of Ames, Iowa and her granddaughter Jordan Chamberlin of Fayetteville, West Virginia.

Sandy lived in Ames, Iowa for 22 years where she graduated from Ames High School and Iowa State University majoring in Elementary Education Child Development. In 1967 she married Duane Powell and they have lived in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio for 48.5 years. Love surrounded her during her final days at home with family and friends.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Duane, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, children Cindy (David) Chamberlin of Fayetteville, WV, Krissy (Chris) Novotny of Fairview Park, OH, brothers Don (Alice) Thogerson of Atlanta GA, Stan (Lai) Thogerson of Thailand, and five grandchildren, Caleb, Joshua, Emily, Kate, and Rebekah.

Sandy worked for 19 years as a Learning Disabilities Tutor at Roberts Junior school in Cuyahoga Falls and always enjoyed her students and colleagues. Being the best mother, grandmother, and wife were always her top priority. She will be dearly missed by her family and many dear friends.

The family would like to thank her doctors and nurses at Summa Akron City Hospital for the wonderful care that was given to her and the Visiting Angel care givers that came to her home.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9 in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home. 1930 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls where friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Delbert Walker officiating. In lieu of flower, donations can be made in memory to the Summa Cooper Cancer Center, Akron, OH.
