Sheldon William Barlette, Sr. 91, passed away September 23, 2010.
Mr. Barlette was the youngest of five children born on October 3, 1918 in Kenmore, Ohio to Harvey William and Etta Barlett. His mother, Etta passed away when he was 9 years old and his father remarried and moved the family to a farm in Sharon Center. He worked on the farm for ten years and left to return to Akron. Sheldon loved to drive and worked as a valet at the City Garage where he met Thelma via a family friend. He served in the Army as a driver in WWII and then worked at Elton Towing, as a GI cab driver, then for Brinks for seven years and for Greyhound for 33 years. He was a Past Master of Coventry - Akron Lodge 83 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Akron and The Shrine. He drove burn victims to the burn center and was a member of Forest Hill Community Church on North Hill.
Preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Myrtle, Christine, Dorothy and Delbert, he is survived by his wife Thelma, with whom he would have celebrated their 69th anniversary on October 18th, children, Sheldon William (Phyllis) Barlette, Jr. of Cuyahoga Falls, Donna (Glenn) Rininger of Florida and Priscilla Barlette-Garrett of Florida; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26 in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls where a funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 27, Pastor Glenn Rininger officiating. Coventry-Akron Lodge 83 F. & A.M. will conduct a Masonic Service at 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Interment in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
