STOW -Shirley D. Canavan (Meffert), 82, passed away April 22, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Canavan was born in Wampum, PA and had resided in Stow the past 32 years, moving there from Akron. She had worked for Westinghouse as a press operator and was past president of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was very proud of being a coal miner's daughter.
Preceded in death by her husband Robert Meffert and sons Jeffrey Meffert, Donald Lee Canavan and daughter-in-law, Diane Canavan she is survived by her husband, Donald E. Canavan; sons, Gaylord A. (Suzanne) Meffert of Akron, Robert B. (Joyce) Meffert of Uniontown, Patrick W. (Susan) Meffert of Akron, Curtis L. (Laura) Meffert of Uniontown, David (June) Canavan of Green, James (Barb) Canavan of West Palm Beach, FL and Joel Canavan of Stow, daughter-in-law, Marnie Canavan; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and sisters, Patty, Colleen, Doris and Ida.

The Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls where a Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:00 pm Sunday, April 26th, Pastor Jerry Harpoole officiating. Final resting place Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Blvd., Canfield, OH 44406.
