Thomas R Tasker

Thomas Richard Tasker of Akron, passed away at age 79 on February 5, 2025. Thomas was a sensitive, thoughtful and kind person. He was a caregiver while in service to his country and in his career. He had a keen wit, a great sense of humor, and made friends wherever he went. He loved cats and dogs, chess, listening to classic rock radio, Swenson’s, and long drives through the Ohio countryside.

Thomas attended Buchtel High School in Akron and briefly attended Otterbein College before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1965. He served four years as a Hospital Corpsman, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. Following his service, Thomas attended the University of Akron and obtained a B.A. in Sociology, a diploma in Nursing from Akron General Medical Center and a Masters in Nursing from the University of Akron.

Over the course of his career he worked as both an R.N. and as an Instructor at Summa-St.Thomas, Akron City Hospital and Akron General Medical Center, with a specialization in psychiatric nursing. Throughout his career Thomas used his life experiences and service as a Medic in Vietnam to train a younger generation of healthcare professionals in providing compassionate care. He touched hundreds of lives.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brothers, Mark Tasker (Anna), Craig Tasker (Valerie), and his nephews David Tasker, Kevin Tasker (Elizabeth), and his niece Mara (Michael) Tasker, and grandnephew Lorenzo. Thomas was a resident of Bath Creek Estates for four years. Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Bath Creek caregivers and administrators for their loving, supportive, and excellent care. He was loved and respected by his Bath community, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the form of random acts of kindness. Thomas would advise that we take care of veterans, animals, and each other. Per his request, no services will be held. Cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest privately at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
