STOW -Virginia Powers, 97, was born May 1, 1911 near Cambridge, OH and passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008. She grew up in Cambridge and moved to Akron in 1928 where she met her husband, Ted. She worked for Yankee Lines, an Akron trucking company and for Manpower, Inc. She was a transcriber on Beacon Journal's "Action Line" for a number of years, which she enjoyed very much. When she was younger, she enjoyed ballroom dancing, later became an avid bowler and finally was involved in senior activities at the Quirk Center. She resided in Cuyahoga Falls for nearly 65 years before moving to the Stow-Glen Retirement Community seven years ago.
Preceded in death by her husband, H. Ted she is survived by her son, Thomas (Tom) and his wife, Cheryl of Hickory, NC; niece and nephew, Joan and John Riegel of Yorba Linda, CA and cousins, Phyllis and George Knepper of Stow.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday in Stow-Glen Birch Hall Community Room 4285 Kent Road, Stow, OH 44224, Chaplain Kim Barnett officiating. Final resting place Crown Hill Burial Park. In lieu of other remembrances, friends are asked to make memorials to their favorite charitable organization.
