William Jennings Bandy Jr.

CUYAHOGA FALLS-William Jennings (Bill) Bandy, Jr. lived a full life dedicated to creative problem solving. He was born November 3, 1939, raised in Alliance, Ohio, and spent the majority of his life in Cuyahoga Falls. He graduated from the University of Akron with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. His professional career, which spanned more than 45 years, included engineering and management positions at Karl R. Rohrer and Associates, Dalton, Dalton, Little and Newport, and Snell Environmental Group prior to becoming a Co-Founder and President of Environmental Design Group in Akron. Dedicated to his profession, he was an active member of ASME and ASCE and supported numerous student development and alumni programs at the University of Akron, most notably its Women in Engineering program which encourages women to join the field.
He served in the Ohio and United States Chambers of Commerce and held many other volunteer roles focused on serving his community. He was an Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster who enjoyed the outdoors, raising his family to share his love for hiking, camping, boating, and fishing.
Bill was passionate about cars. As a young man he built and drag raced hotrods. Later he enjoyed restoring and showing classic cars. He and Sandy frequently traveled to attend open wheel, sports car, and stock car races. He was active in local Thunderbird and Mustang clubs.
A loving and generous husband, father and grandfather, Bill was known for his sense of humor, kindness, and helpful nature. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife Sandy, his children William (Jennifer), Michelle (Tony) and Bernard, his sister Janet, and his grandchildren Rachel, Leah, Avery and Ian. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Marian Bandy.
The family will celebrate his life with calling hours on Wednesday, April 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home at 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to The University of Akron Foundation - Women in Engineering Program, c/o Megan Hopper, Office of Development , 302 Buchtel Commons, Akron, Ohio 44325-2603. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
