CUYAHOGA FALLS -William L. Burch, 78, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, after a long illness. Born in Moundsville, W. Virginia, Bill spent most of his life in this area. After serving in the Army in Korea before the war, in Co."A" 31st Infantry Regiment, and in the Army reserves, he started selling cars with his brother, Jack, and continued at various dealerships for 50 years - the last 25 at Marhofer Chevrolet.
Bill loved God, his family and friends, and his church, First United Methodist, Cuyahoga Falls, where he served in several capacities. He had also been active in East Ohio Emmanuel Emmaus and served as its community lay director for 3 years.
Bill also loved to fly, and as a private pilot, spent many happy hours in the air with his good friend and partner, Bob Schray of Stow. Bill was known for his big smile and keen sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; daughter, Ivy Mattingly; son, Matthew Burch; grandchildren, Samantha, Sandra and Ethan Mattingly and Emily and Abigail Burch. He also leaves sister, Mary; sister-in-law, Hattiebelle; nephew, Riley Burch of Florida and nieces, RaeBelle Saddoris of Oregon and Jaclynn Daly of Maryland. He will be greatly missed by all.
Calling hours will be 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm Monday at The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls and the service will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church, corner of Portage Trail and Third, Cuyahoga Falls, Rev. Marvin Brown, Rev. Susan Lausch and Rev. Jim Abe officiating.
