CUYAHOGA FALLS - William James Griggs "Bill", 83, of Stow, Ohio passed away Sept. 11, 2007 at home with his family by his side.
Bill was born to Verna (Hunter) and Elbert Griggs February 1, 1924 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Raised in Cuyahoga Falls, he moved to Stow in 1955. He attended Cuyahoga Falls High School where he excelled in baseball, basketball, football (Bullet Arm) and
Acapella choir. He played saxophone, clarinet and piano. He loved gardening, fishing, antique glass collecting and sports. He served in the Air Force during WWII. Retired from PCA after 38 years as a Teamster.
Preceded in death by parents, son Billy, brother-in-law Charlie Harmon and niece Rene Watters, he is survived by wife of 60 years (August 8th) Hazel (Harmon) Griggs; daughters Theresa Howieson, Nancy Griggs; sons, Dion (Judy) Griggs, Del (Denise) Griggs; grandchildren, Maurene (Mike) Witwer, Amy (Richard) Hutchison, Bill , Kristen, Nick, and Jim Griggs; and great-grandchildren, Joe, Theresa, Katie, Andrew, Elizabeth and Alexander; brother Al (Sue) Griggs; cousin John (Val) Hunter; and brothers-in-law Harold Harmon and Gene (June) Harmon; numerous family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery by Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home on Friday, September 14. Ceremony officiated by Hospice Chaplain Patty Kelleher.
Special thanks to Doctor Advani and the Cleveland Clinic Staff; Doctors Marsico Sr., Marsico, Jr., Pinkowski, Oyakawa and Hospice Services and nurse Katie Griffin for their kindness, compassion and humor during Bill's long battle with lymphoma.
