CUYAHOGA FALLS – William C. Ignizio, 73, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018. He was born and raised in Akron to loving parents Nora (Roberson) and Paul Ignizio who are now deceased. Bill graduated from Central High School in 1963, and from the University of Akron with a Degree in Education. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandi (Cleghorn) Ignizio, sons, David Ignizio, Robert Ignizio (Stephanie Lane), and grandson, Vincent Ignizio; brother, Dr. James Ignizio (Cynthia), sister, Paula Ignizio.
Some of the happiest times in Bill's life were spent in Jessup, Georgia on his Grandfather's farm. As a teenager, he sold pro wrestling programs at the Akron Armory and was a paperboy for the Akron Beacon Journal. After graduating from the University of Akron with a degree in education, he taught at Coventry Local Schools for thirty years, where he served as president of Coventry Education Association. He was also the editor of NEOTA News and Views. In the 1970's Bill began writing for outdoor magazines such as Ohio Fisherman, Field & Stream, Sports Afield, and many others. Bill co-authored three books, including “Panfish” for the Hunting and Fishing Library", “Fishy Business” with his brother, James Ignizio, and a Soap Box Derby book called “How I Saw It” with Jeff Iula. Bill also contributed articles to Cracked Magazine and Akron Life and Leisure.
Bill was a member of Outdoor Writers of America and was past president of Outdoor Writers of Ohio, where he received the Lou Klewer Award which is the highest honor a member can receive. Bill and friend Paul Liikala started a radio show on WSLR called The Tackle Box in the 1980s which became an award-winning show.
Bill had a passion for humor, music, writing and art which he passed down to his children. He was a voracious learner, teacher and speaker, expert storyteller, outdoorsman and history lover. He will be missed greatly by those he leaves behind.
Special thanks to Bill's cousin Vince Ignizio and friends Paul Liikala and Juniper Sage for their support and visits. Also thanks to the staff of Maplewood at Cuyahoga Falls and Harbor Light Hospice for the great care they gave Bill.
