CUYAHOGA FALLS - William L. Lowe, 89, passed away October 10, 2018.
He was born in Akron and resided in Cuyahoga Falls for the past 63 years. Bill graduated from the University of Akron with a BA in history, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. After graduation he received a commission in the U.S. Air Force and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Korean War. Upon his return he began his over 30 year teaching career in the Springfield Township City School District. He received a Master's Degree in Education from Kent State University. While a teacher he was a spelling be coach and was fortunate to have one of his students go to the National Spelling Bee Championship in Washington DC. He was a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar and a lifetime OEA member.
Bill served on the Cuyahoga Falls City council for 26 years and one of his proudest achievements was his creation of the Cuyahoga Falls Octoberfest. He volunteered at Good Neighbors for over 30 years. Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 65 years and a founding member of the Wesley Sunday School Class. He loved reading, traveling and his family was very important to him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Gideon C. and Elizabeth H. Lowe; brothers, Gideon and Howard; he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Delphia Ann (nee Jones); children, Becky (Michael) Higgins, Sandy Rouse and Bill (Kathy) Lowe; grandchildren, Sandy, Jennifer (Aaron), Laura (Matthew), Michael (Nicole), Lisa (Gabriel), Taylor and Billy; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon (Charles) Stull and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 1-4 PM on Sunday October 14, 2018 at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM October 15 at the First United Methodist Church 245 Portage Trail Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. Rev. Jonathan Priebe will be officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of other remembrances memorials may be made to Cuyahoga Falls Good Neighbors 1742 2nd St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221 or the First United Methodist Church Gift and Memorial Fund. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
